The Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) is one of an elite number of National Cancer Institute-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country, and is a prominent, dynamic, growing and complex Institute within the Stanford University School of Medicine. The SCI actively works to build synergies and collaborations among faculty with cancer-relevant expertise from four Schools and over 30 departments across Stanford University. We seek an Assistant Cancer Clinical Research Coordinator to help us enact our mission to reduce cancer mortality through comprehensive programs of cancer research, treatment, education and outreach. The Stanford Tissue Bank is an integral component of the Stanford Cancer Institute since the vital work performed there enables our adult and pediatric cancer centers to translate research from the laboratory into the clinical setting. You will be working with an unparalleled leading edge community of faculty and staff who are fundamentally changing the world of health care in the cancer arena.

Reporting to the Tissue Bank Manager, the Assistant Cancer Clinical Research Coordinator will be conversant in the goals, mission and priorities of the Institute, and utilize this knowledge to support basic cancer research by obtaining patient consent and ensuring high quality research samples are available to Stanford PIs. We are seeking candidates with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and outstanding oral/written communication skills with the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams. Our staff run toward challenges, and you will have a demonstrated history of doing the same with a high degree of professionalism, initiative and flexibility.

Duties include:
Perform clerical duties in the preparation of regulatory documents. Maintain all forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. File all appropriate correspondence.
Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants. Review medical records and/or perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data, as needed.
Extract data from source documents for research studies as directed. Collect data and complete case report forms.
Prepare, process, and ship specimens/samples accurately under well-defined requirements.
Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
Speak with Stanford Hospital surgical patients and obtain informed consent for research tissue and blood collections
Coordinate incoming consents obtained by other Stanford Clinical Staff
Enter consents into the database
Maintain digital records of consent forms
Process and store blood and tissue samples for future research
Assist other Tissue Bank Staff with incoming service requests

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working as a coordinator in Oncology Clinical Trials
Ability to learn, understand and follow strict protocol for managing data
Strong communication and interpersonal skills attuned to the needs of the patient
Competence using MS Word and Excel Excellent organizational skills
Ability to enter data in a precise and timely manner
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
Ability to use good judgment and discretion
Always first and foremost protect the rights, safety and well-being of patients

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Two-year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
General knowledge of medical terminology.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat and use fine light/fine grasping.
Occasionally sit, reach above shoulders, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, grasp forcefully, sort and file paperwork or parts, rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
