Job Description:
Under the immediate supervision of the Manager of Rehabilitation
and Respiratory and a Senior Occupational Therapist, the
Occupational Therapist will be directly involved in patient
evaluation, planning, directing and administering occupational
therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed
physician. He/She will assist patients to reach their maximum
performance and level of functioning, by providing effective, and
quality care for the patient. She/He will ensure patient charges
are accurate and entered on a timely basis. The Occupational
Therapist will coordinate, delegate, and supervise assigned
supportive staff (COTA). He/She will perform other duties as
directed by a Senior Occupational Therapist. The population served
includes: adolescents, adults, and geriatricsPOSITION SPECIFIC
DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)1Upon referral, evaluate
patients by performing appropriate functional assessment as related
to occupational therapy according to AOTA's standards of practice
for Occupational Therapy.2Identifies appropriate goals and
administers effective treatment plans per AOTA's
guidelines.3Efficiently implements and modifies treatment
plans.4Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effect, recommends
change to physician as needed in accordance to AOTA's Standards of
Practice for Occupational Therapy.5Formulates a teaching plan based
upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of
learning, family training is included as appropriate.6Completes all
documentation required by either policy, procedure, or regulation.
7Delegates and supervise patient treatment as appropriate to the
COTA.8Co-signs all COTA's notes.9Participate in inservice education
programs.10Participate in clinical instruction of
students.11Ensures patient charges are accurate.12Completes billing
sheet accurately by end of day and prints out the end of shift
charge report.13Assists with orientation of registry and newly
hired staff as directed.14Demonstrates an ability to be flexible,
organized and function under stressful
situations.15Instruct/Inservice other disciplines regarding OT
functions.16Keep abreast of current trends and developments in
occupational therapy and rehabilitation.17Participates in
professional activities in order to continue their own professional
development and contribute to that of the profession.18Adheres to
the AOTA's Code of Ethnics and Standards of Practice for
Occupational Therapy.19Attends department staff meetings/reads and
signs off on all missed staff meeting minutes.20Meets expectations
successfully on all position specific duties.21Provides orientation
to newly hired staff.22Meets 3 professional goals.23Meets daily
productivity targets at least 90% of the time.24Maintain 24 hour of
continuing education, which includes hospital inservices, and
attendance of seminars.25Give 2 inservices.26Provide 6 hours of
teaching.27Assist with one student as permitted.28Participate in 1
hospital/department based professional development
program.QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION:Graduation from a
school of Occupational Therapy accredited by the American
Occupational Therapy Association.EXPERIENCE:Two years experience in
Occupational Therapy.CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:Current valid license
through the California Board of Occupational Therapy, or eligible
for such licensure at the time of appointment. Membership in the
American Occupational Therapy Association and the Occupational
Therapy Association of California is encouraged.Current BLS (Basic
Life Support - BLS Provider) certification through the American
Heart Association.Dysphagia Certification by the CA Board of
Occupational Therapy, preferredOTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES &
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of the principals and practices of Occupational
Therapy, with knowledge of practices of other disciplines. Ability
to evaluate, to plan and to carry out an Occupational Therapy
rehabilitative program for individuals patients; ability to
explain, demonstrate and teach Occupational Therapy rehabilitative
measures; ability to supervise supportive personnel; ability to
work effectively with others in an inter-disciplinary team
relationship; beginning ability to be self-directed and to seek
direction and consultation as needed; ability to express oneself
clearly both verbally and in written format.Must have basic
