Job Description:

Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Chemistry/General Laboratory, is responsible for performing laboratory procedures on specimens from inpatients and outpatients.Performs Laboratory Analytical Procedures: Operates instrumentation in accordance with instrument and departmental SOP. Completes testing within established turn-around times. Recognizes unacceptable specimen conditions and takes appropriate action per protocol. Perform tests according to SOP. Maintains a clean, neat and organized work area.Test Result Reporting: Accurately reports test results. Recognizes when critical values must be communicated and documents these communications. Recognozes delta flags and takes appropriate action per protocol. Recognizes extraordinary test results and verifies them. Demonstrate the ability to determine when questions about results must be referred to the Lead/Specialist-Lead or pathologist. Notifies the section Lead/Specialist-Lead or pathologist of any exeptional results.Instrument Responsilities: When required, completes and documents scheduled instrument maintenance. Demonstrates the ability to identify basic instrument problems and performs trouble-shooting and documentation according to SOP. Notifies Lead/Specialist-Lead of department of problems when appropriate. Verifies acceptable QC values according to SOP before reporting results. Preliminarily investigates and trouble-shoots out-of-range QC before notifying Lead/Specialist-Lead. Performs necessary calibrations as per SOP.Performs Computer Functions: Able to perform all basic LIS functions as per checklist.Other Duties: Acts under the direction of Lead, Specialist-Lead, Manager and/or Pathologists in other necessary activities if consistent with training, education, and professional ethics.Bachelor's degree in Medical technology or related Science.Three years of recent laboratory rxperience, one year of which was a hospital laboratory.Experience utilizing a Laboratory Information System, preferably Misys.Currect California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.AHMC Seton Medical Center, Clinical Laboratory
